The Thesis

Your Plant Has a Scrap Rate. So Does Your Marketing.

·2 min read

Part 2 of six from The Four-Minute Plant — Shutterfeed’s thesis on why Indian manufacturers lose at validation, not at the quote.

Every plant I have worked in runs on numbers it does not argue with. OEE. Cpk. PPM. Scrap rate. Nobody on a shop floor would run a line on a feeling, and nobody would accept a scrap rate they had never measured.

Marketing, in the same building, runs on feeling. A website was made once. A deck was made once. Photographs were taken when a phone was handy. Enquiries arrive from referrals and expos, and when one is lost, no one can say at which step. If the plant ran the way its marketing runs, the plant would be shut.

So I started scoring it the way a plant would. Every buyer who arrives at your website, your deck, your LinkedIn page is a unit of attention entering the line. Some of it converts to an enquiry. Most of it is discarded on first sight — a phone photograph, a scanned PDF, a team page with no faces. That is your Trust Scrap Rate, and it is the number nobody measures, because nobody thought of marketing as a process with a yield.

The Trust Audit on this site exists to put a number on it. It scores five modules and returns an OME — Overall Marketing Effectiveness — read against the OEE you already run the plant on. Not because the metaphor is clever, but because a manufacturer will act on a number that looks like the numbers they trust, and will not act on a paragraph about brand awareness. And where attention stops moving — a form nobody answers inside a working day, a deck that takes a week to send — that is a bottleneck, with the same cost as one on the floor.
